Still Thankful?
Why isn’t everyone asking what we’re thankful for today? Why is it that Thanksgiving is just about the only day of the year that people seem thankful for everything?
Well, that’s not entirely true, actually…some people aren’t thankful for even one day of the year.

actually, the original purpose of the hoiday was to show thanks for being no longer under british rule… its only celebrated in america, and i dont think australia would care if britain decided to leave us alone (yes, we’re still a british colony… we have to sing “God save the queen” everytime she visits… i prefer my own anthem, thank you ~_~}}).. but yeah, how did thanksgiving go from an unnoficial “we’re free for the british!” to “i’m happy to be alive!”…?
ryc: now that i think about it, i shouldve said “having sex… well… like rabbits”…
that’s a good point.
I’m pretty sure the original purpose of the holiday was just being thankful for food and not dying; at least, that’s what tradition and oral history passes down to us. If you were there, maybe you could give us proof otherwise?
And yes, people should be thankful every day of the year. But think about this, if we didn’t have Thanksgiving, many people would never stop and smell the gratitude.
hmmmm, I think I wrote a post sorta about this but about 9/11.
You’ll read it here.
I’m thankful everyday, but I am extremely thankful that there is a day which all people, even those who are not always thankful, can remember to be thankful to the One who created them.
Ingrates.
Fire and Brimstone and all that stuff. Unthankful curr-dogs.
yeah, something like that… it seems to hover around there, making incremental jumps or falls, then leveling back out…
Thanks, Caleb. Your comment was encouraging. And yeah, I’d appreciate those technical and grammatical pointers, unless they interfere with the flow.
no its not my job…i’m not good enough for that to be my job hahaha. umm…was that you dancing in the video? cause that was pretty good….
Why do we have one day out of seven set apart for rest and worship when we should be worshipping God all the time? And why do we only have communion once a month or so when we should be communing with God all the time? And why do we set aside one day of the year to remember Christ’s resurrection when it should affect our lives every moment of every day?
Because we are human beings who need reminders. Maybe we should have Thanksgiving every month, to remind us more often.
I think lots about what I’m grateful for, maybe cos I also think a lot about what I have lost, idk. Maybe having the holiday is still a good idea as a symbol though. Kev
i am most deffinitly thankful for alida……….and the love she has brought to my life
yes alida is a wonderful person…….(the love of my life)…………but anyway..i too like to hear ppls thoughts on this subject..hints why i asked………………….but…………………..to make u think.i cant explain all my thoughts here in one sitting, so again to make u thikn……………………..life is meaningless……………..now its not lliteral……….think hard and tell me what u think i mean
I like how the first poster said Thanksgiving Day was to be thankful for separation from British rule; I’d add Lincoln reinstated it after the Civil War, as well. I try to give thanks everyday to God because He’s so much more faithful and forgiving than what I deserve, and some of the psalms are perfect for giving thanks daily. Hope your holiday was wonderful.
yup.
*rolls eyes* I see you’ve talked to knight. It seems I get talked about a lot in the xanga world…
I’m thankful for life. It is so fragile that we just take it for granted. Hope you didn’t eat too much turkey!
Hey Buddy…
Thanks for stopping by the other day. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. IT has been so busy.. and I don’t see it getting any better for awhile
Anyway, wanted to stop by and say hi, and let you know you were not forgotten.
Blessings,
Pastor Phil
ryc: That was fast! I just posted only a few minutes ago.
I love your question. I’m grateful for every day. I’ve been through some tragic times in my life which has has made me appreciate even the dull, mundane days and be thankful in them. It’s funny how you can go through some really bad things, but can be at peace about it – because you understand better what is precious in life, and you can disregard the “fluff”. I have more joy now.
RYC: Logic like everything else has its limits. There are always underlying assumptions of reality behind logic. So when logic fails what are you left with? I dunno.
It’s the same thing with God. If God is beyond infinity, then how can we know God? So isn’t what is from God always affected by your reality and perceptions? Again what are you left with? I dunno.
To me one of the secrets of life is becoming very comfortable with uncertainty and chaos. It’s in becoming comfortable with, “I dunno.”
you still haven’t replied to my suggestions! i knew you were going to be rude. if you didn’t see it it is on the previous post

when something good happens, i feel thankful for it (like the fire drill that brought us out of physics today), but i don’t exactly sit there and ponder at any given moment.

Roman soldiers who were converted. . .doesn’t surprise me that the bible doesn’t mention much about this, because I think at the start of Christianity there was still a fairly large distiction between Jews and Gentiles?. . .I’m sure the ride from (what is now judaism) to Christanity didn’t go perfectly smoothly.
Why aren’t soldiers mentioned in the list?
Well I know there’s a number of stuff on the list, but I’m sure if you put your mind to it you could come up with a number of other stuff that aren’t on the list as well. Why aren’t they? Just because it’s not on the list doesn’t mean in and of itself that it’s right. . .even if it’s abscence might seem to indicate this.
As for oversimplifying the issue, there’s no way I can even began to address-or even possibly see–everything on the issue. But I saw the question, and wrote what came to my mind. I certainly didn’t write anything extensive. I’m sure we could all go alot deeper into the topic. . .
We should be thankful more often.
Why exactly have to started getting up at like 2, 3, 4 in the morning? lol
Hey, thanks for commenting. It was interesting to see different people’s takes on that, haha.
I don’t know why people make such a deal about being thankful for just one day out of the year. It should be all the time. If I made a huge, awesome, gorgeous house for somebody, and they only thanked me for filling up their fridge, I’d be ticked. I think God gets the short end of the appreciation deal. If that made any sense, then cool, if not, I’ve wasted your time, haha.
Have a nice night,
Andie
