Happy Christmas-month, everyone!
I was thinking of saying “Happy holidays!” but decided my Christian readers might be too offended.
Um…I can see why non-Christians might be offended by “Merry Christmas” if they don’t like Christmas. Also, I understand that Wal-Mart might value the business of the wealthy Ebenezer Scruge. However, I really don’t understand why so many Christians are so offended by the phrase “Happy holidays.” It’s not anti-Christian, and it’s not inappropriate. There are several holidays in December besides Christmas. It’s not as if anything bad is being said about Christmas, and it’s not as if Christmas is being left out. Why be offended?
I was listening to a radio show the other day that was talking about how stupid the “happy holidays” thing was. The host was saying that most people wouldn’t be offended by “Merry Christmas,” so people should stick to that phrase. A caller asked, “Isn’t it just absolutely silly to be offended by two little words like that?” “Exactly my point!” the host declared. “Well then, sir, why are you so offended by the phrase, ‘happy holidays?’”
I just don’t get it. You can say “Merry Christmas!” and your local department store can say “Happy holidays!” or “Happy Chrismahaunaquanzika!” and we can all stop being so incredibly touchy about it.

ha nice one xristos ……………and its ok that last post wasnt really for you..im sorry……….but its all good..my brother.stand strong and be wisee
I agree…You know what makes it even sillier? The fact that even if people are saying “Merry Christmas”, the majority of people who accept the phrase don’t even celebrate Christmas as a Christ-Mass, but as a time of Santa Claus, Christmas Trees, and yummy food. Instead of forcing the issue of words that we say, “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays”, Christians should be focusing on showing what this season means to us through our actions. We should be peace-makers, not hair-splitters.
Hey Light_of_the_Dragon, don’t call me Xristos…it’d be greek blasphemy or something.
Katie, what about just showing what life means to us, since December really doesn’t mean any more than August or any other month?
i knowut it is the name of your site and that is what referred to
Why don’t they say nothing at all. Then everyone will be happy.
It’s not the saying of Happy Holidays that gets people offended. It’s when Merry Christmas is taken out of Christmas entirely. I would not have been offended in the least if you had said Happy Holidays.
Happy Holidays, doesn’t bother me really. You’re right – there’s many different holidays going on right now. What does bother me is that many people celebrate Christmas with zero thoughts about Christ.
Caleb, what about both?
Happy Holidays bothers me only in that it rose out of political correctness, and the worry of “offending” people with the sole mention of Christmas.
i know how hard it is for you not to use them
I get sick of the drama every year about Christmas, as if its an issue. For me its an amazing holiday & thats it. If others dont wanna celebrate it or say Merry Christmas, let them do what they want. I just get tired of hearing the debate over & over again. Kev
have to agree with you….dont se why “happy holidays” is so offensive. I dont care either way though, so…..
haha they were probably to depressed to show up. who thinks of that seriously. wow that really made me laugh. poor you hah why didnt you have friends when you were 5? i dont really think anyone had friends when they were 5 though. merry christmas is fine seriously who gives a s**t. look i blocked out words for you lol. take care.

Wow. I’d say that the boss dude at Target was pretty heartless. I have to admit, the “I couldn’t have Sundays off because I didn’t look remotely Jewish” made me laugh, lol. Thank you for praying.
I’d comment on your post, but I’m being yelled at to watch CSI with my family that we taped. To be continued, haha.

the touchiness is something gets to everyone and in many ways just because they are pulled from their little bubbles. RYC: Ignorance and INDIFFERENCE. those are the enemies in this fight. The ability to refuse to be persuaded by reason…
hmm,,, I don’t know if offended would be the right word. But I would talk to them about why they think Christmas is a pagan holiday.
well, it’s called a pressure ulcer. It’s more common in the elderly and the morbidly obese. It’s caused by pressure [hence the name].It comes from bad personal hygene for an insanely long period of time, or lack of turning for an elderly person. When an elderly person has one, it’s generally not their fault. It’s their caregiver’s. For not repositioning them correctly, and cleaning them more often.
but yea.
Hi, I’m Autumn.
ryc:
I think it sort of depends on your definition of terms, and the conditions therein.
Such as?
Crap. Internet ate my comment. Redo.
Anyway, so I was struggling to come up with something to say when I read the icebox_cyclepath dude’s comment. Yeah, that’s what I would’ve said, only better wording and much simpler. Yay, I don’t have to think for myself, yahoo, lol.

I mean, define “oath,” and take into account the restrictions and conditions of said oath.
(With hand on Bible) I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help me God.
yup, pretty much.
Caleb, you are so deep, way too smart for your own age.
We can teach others about tolerating by tolerating their untolerable behaviors.
umm…I think it should probably be spelled Christmahannukwanzaakah. Or maybe Christmachannukkwanzaakah, depending on how you spell (C)Hannuk(k)a(h). And should you say happy, or merry, or maybe Haperry or Merrappy Christmahannukkwanzaaka? And what happens if you throw New Years into the mix?
YES
every told me i’d feel it, but i expected something more smooth and slick. now i know that they really did mean just that…..slimy.
I honestly think that part of the problem is that Christianity has been used as a means of separation and condemnation. It’s all rather silly. Everybody is just so sensitive today.
