Kay, I’m not gonna lie…  I am, as a woman, initially slightly offended by the statement “men ought to be dominant, and women ought to be submissive”. Because, put that way, it seems  to be a put down to women, frankly. However, thinking through it for a full five seconds, and looking at it this way has helped me to see it a different way. Look at the different aspects of Christ. When he came as the sacrificial lamb, around 2000 years ago, his example was one of service..of submission, if you will. When he comes in the future though, he will come as a warrior, dominant and powerful. If both are aspects of Christ, than to be called either one is no slight, yet to be called both is even greater. Eve was the helper, the support, and companion of Adam. Adam, was the provider, the shelter, the strength. Think of Adam as the house, Eve all the things in that house. So yes, Biblically, maybe a woman’s role should typically  be more submissive, and a man’s more dominant. Yet,  I still think there are times for men to be submissive, even as there are times for women to be dominant. Still, offense should not be taken at the word “submissive”…who says “submissive” is a bad thing to be (if the submission is given to the right cause of course)? Western culture says that, it drills it into us..”submission means you have no voice, it means you are ‘less than’, it means you aren’t as strong as a man, it means you must not be as smart, or have ideas or a will of your own”…I think most women would say that it’s harder for us to submit than dominate….So…in it’s own way, it takes more strength to be submissive when the time comes than it does to dominate.

ONE MORE THING. “Women, submit to your husbands”, holy cow is that often misinterpreted and taken out of context…I’ve met A LOT of people who are offended by that verse. How about this part? “Husbands, love your wives even as Christ loved the Church”….Ok, think about that. What did Christ do for the Church, among other things…he gave the greatest thing He had, and the greatest thing we’ve ever recieved….HIMSELF. Giving of yourself could be called many things…..like…for instance….hmmm…submission. So don’t let Western culture make the Bible seem “backwards” or “sexist” to you. Maybe I’ll think about this some more, and come back, I only thought about it for a few seconds.
