Nice…not sure what to call that….is it like an enlarged icon??? hmmm It isnt a icon but it isnt really a picture….anyway are you catholic???
Thoughts? All the time. lol
Thanks for the nickname lol.
Haha well I used to be catholic and they take communion every sunday so your post made me think to ask lol. I’m not catholic anymore though. I’m baptist

and this is a really cool post! Do you mind if I use it for a topic someday?
THANK YOU!
symbols, right?
is it really important what we use so long as it’s in remembrance?
I think symbolizing Christ with a bottle of grape juice is … disgustingly cheap and it falls so very short. When Christians experience Christ and His sacrifice it should be more sacred than the bread loaf in my refridgerator, and the concentrated grape juice sitting in the pantry.
Why not show unleavened bread, as was present at the Last Supper? Wine, as was present at the Last Supper?
It is REMEMBERANCE that we aim for, but in REVERANCE
i think i have a unique take on it since i’ve both prepared and blessed the sacrament at my church. but it gets long and windy, and tangents off everywhere.
we use bread and water.
I love your idea. Absolutely love it!
I view this the same way as wearing a t-shirt and blue jeans to church. Sure there are some people who don’t have anything nicer to wear, and we should welcome them into the church and love them. Appearances are not the important thing. But most people don’t fit into this category. They are perfectly willing to dress to the nines when they go out with their friends. They have the clothes. So why do they dress down? In my opinion it is because we are afraid to really give honor to something. We think of Jesus more as a best friend than as a Lord. We forget that He created the universe. We avoid thinking about how HUGE God really is. The reason is because it is incredibly scary to actually come to grips with the sheer power of the God we worship. (“He is not a safe lion” – C.S. Lewis)
So we steer away from all the outward things that point to the magnitude of God. Grape juice is not the only thing that has been watered down. Tradition and symbol have become bad words in modern Christian culture. We are afraid of what is bigger than us. The function of symbols are that they capture the imagination. Would you rather have your imagination captured by wine, unlevened bread, tall steeples pointing toward heaven, and people dressing in their “Sunday’s best” to do honor to God, or Welch’s and plexi-glass pulpits?
1356 If from the beginning Christians have celebrated the Eucharist and in a form whose substance has not changed despite the great diversity of times and liturgies, it is because we know ourselves to be bound by the command the Lord gave on the eve of his Passion: “Do this in remembrance of me.”183
1357 We carry out this command of the Lord by celebrating the memorial of his sacrifice. In so doing, we offer to the Father what he has himself given us: the gifts of his creation, bread and wine which, by the power of the Holy Spirit and by the words of Christ, have become the body and blood of Christ. Christ is thus really and mysteriously made present.
1358 We must therefore consider the Eucharist as:
- thanksgiving and praise to the Father; - the sacrificial memorial of Christ and his Body; - the presence of Christ by the power of his word and of his Spirit. Source
RE: Glad you enjoyed it!!!
Well, at least it was Publix bread and Welch’s grape juice, and not Wally-world generic
Personally I miss the good old wine and unleavened bread at CTK…there just seems to be something more when it burns as it goes down…shows more of the bitter, serious side of the crucifixion as well as the sweet side…
“You’ve got mail”….so check it!
that’s a really good movie btw, you ever seen it?
You know, when I spent a summer living with my Catholic relatives (it’s a long story), they wouldn’t let me take communion, but they were always pressuring me to convert. It was pretty funny at the dinner table.
“Pass the butter…AND ACCEPT JESUS AS YOUR LORD AND BUTTER AND REPENT YOUR SINS OR BURN FOREVER YOU LITTLE HEATHEN — “ “Whoa, slow down there, holy roller.”
Nice post script. lol
Whenever I hear people use the word “Communion,” I remember Christ’s specification, “do this in remembrance of me,” and so I regard it as a ceremony of remembrance, not as an act of communion with anything beyond this world, any more than any other act of appreciation, such as say, seeing how pure new snow looks. Juice and bread straight out of the fridge? Why not. It was certainly everyday food that was served at the last supper.
“I’m gonna write a book called Brave New World, and make it all about what might happen if emo kids managed to rule the world. Excuse me while I go contact a publisher…” Yes, good idea. However, you need to be quick, as I’ve already picked up on it and have the first 8,000 words down. Working title – “Rocknor Bay.” I ran a title contest a few months ago, in one of my back-posts. Probable final title – “Zorn.”
The only thought I have is that those are the wrong items for that caption. It seems to be an idea degrading of communion. But then, I’m Catholic, and we actually believe that the Eucharist actually is Jesus’s body and blood, so its kind of funky for Jesus to be in a loaf of Wonder bread and a glass of Welch’s grape.
Hey I love da pic!
WoW FOGGY I TELL YOU!!!
Sigh. Caleb, there’s these things that people write…they’re called stories.
ryc: NYC is the only city , just kidding. No, I don’t think the former mayor should or at any rate will be elected president.
I dont necessarily believe in transsubstantiation, thats more of a way of explaining how the real presence is there. i havent come to a complete decision regarding how it happens, or i might just leave it a mystery.
I am also a fan of SOME contemporary music, and hope that it becomes a solid part of our church, but we cant abandon the great hymns of the past. before i started attending a traditional church, i had no clue what the “doxology” was. which i now find sad.
i just feel that the complete abandonment of tradition is a bad thing.
Cool but weird!
haha, I like it.
Yeah, Math 112 is pre-calculus. It’s really funny because the one girl that’s taking it didn’t realize it was pre-calc until the class started. . . but she can handle it. She’s about a billion and one times smarter than me.
Man your really trying to push your new blog aren’t you? Just kidding. So are you trying to start some in house debates with the picture? Wine or grape juice? Figurative or literal? You are crazy.
Hey Caleb, I liked yr story & thats something Im struggling with right now. It sounds good when I read it, but then when I think of it applying to me I just close down. Im talking to my youth pastor about it & he helps me a lot, but I still feel like Im in a foreign country when we talk about it. He says I am “enfolded in grace”, but I guess it will be awhile before I can actually believe that. But at least I’m trying. But according to yr story maybe I shouldnt even be trying, & tbh, I cant name anything that Im doing when I say Im trying. Kev
hey
Woohoo! 4 days without school!
Why not on IM?
Whats wrong with his voice, i don’t mind it at all.
now you know how me, Grayson, and Rachel, and soon to be Andrew, think whenever you sing. Or how Katie feels about you…all the time.
you want my thoughts? ok, here it is: ~_~))
at the time Jesus said that ot His disciples, they had real wine… churches could at least get that right… then again, its a compromise to appease man’s earthly laws that state that minors cant drink alcohol… which makes it even more saddening ~_~))
i dont even like grape juice… the last supper is supposed to be a massive glorious feast… why not full-fledged, homemade, togos-style sandwiches instead plain bread? and if not wine, then non-alcoholic cocktails, like arnold palmers or shirley temples? yakno, something to create a sense of worthwhile in our remeberance of Him? or at least more accurately depict the glorious banquet the disciples were having with their Rabbi… in any case, communion today is lame, by any standard…
you know that i time i got bored and typed grilled cheese into ebay and this thing came up and there was this piece of grilled cheese on a plate and they called that art also.
it was number 80 of 100 in a limited series.
Scientists have determined that sexual orientation is predetermined in reptiles by the temperature of the mother’s womb while the child is in utero. And trust me, if sexual orientation were a choice, millions would love to wake up tomorrow morning straight as a rod.
I don’t have much of a problem with these derogatory terms in the dictionary. I’m just a little surprised that they’ve become an accepted part of English language and culture.
Then again, Homer Simpson’s “D’oh” is also in the dictionary. :}
i love brian and that is a rememce of me…
oh, and i think the Switchfoot sucks crazy.
hey boi whatz up nh waiting… for Brian to call… well yeah thats i talk about… yeah so whatz up… nothin new here… waiting for that phone call…
What is the big deal about using bread and grape juice. The bread is to remind us of Christ’s flesh and the grape juice to remind us of Christ’s blood. I see nothing wrong with using normal grape juice and bread, after all, is wine really any holier than grape juice? Obviously not. Also, since the blessing of man accounts for pretty much nothing, then I don’t see any profit in having a human “bless” the bread and wine, it will be just the same. Communion is all about remembrance, not exact re-enactment. Open your eyes, don’t be bound by the chains of tradition. Be free in Christ.
I like the communion. When I read the story I was quite close to the meaning. I think I would respond to it now that I am saved as the person who waited for the Savior. I hope those who read it will respond that way too. cappybaras_and_lovebirds
I swear I can hear my eyes rolling, Caleb. Geez, man, update!! oh, this is All_Stars_Make_Shadows and/or Bright_Thunder. Depending on which you remember better.
my only thought on communion is that our grape juice tasted a bit spiked last time…
Ok, I tried to call you back about many times…is your phone dead? At any rate…I have a plan, so call my cell with your house phone or something. (770) 654-1795.

It’s a big joke to put Christ up for bread. Unless it’s whole wheat.
yes, blue rooms are nice. mine is VERY blue. Like your background, only WAY brighter, and a little darker. okay, maybe not so much like your background after all.
Wow, Caleb. You’re really good at overlooking the whole point of something.

NEW POST
(for you. I’ma post tomorrow)
HA. that’s really funny. maybe we’re both super-annoying people and the whole world is too nice to let us know! Well, at least we can thank the world for it’s kindness.
I’m so glad to know that you watch American Idol. None of my friends do, and it depresses me because I love it. Some of the people scare me, but it can be hilarious.
the purple stuff
haha, I love Simon. Seriously though, I can’t figure some people in this world out; why they THINK they can sing, I don’t understand at all. it’s so odd.
what’s new with caleb? how’s the bible study going. prayed for you in regards to the study. i pray the Lord will use it to open the hearts and minds of those in need of the Lord and you will get stronger in faith and love…
White bread and grape juice? Nah, come on – got to be unleavened bread and wine!
UPDATE, CALEB!!! Geez.
ryc: That’s called Rammstein, son.
I find it amazing that there were so many Catholic comments… and one about transubstantiation… I believe that knowing you are protestant; it has to do with observing communion in a non-catholic way… with no transubstantiation involved. But then… I guess it mans different things to different people depending on your background.
I prefer tradition a lot of the time. It’s important.
I am a member of the Salvation Army. When William Booth(founder of the Salvation Army) started going into the slums and leading people to Christ he would have them participate in communion. However, since most of the people were drunks they would just go back to the taverns after a tast of wine. He stopped doing communion for that very reason, but he encouraged officers to partake once a year in real communion. I personally won’t partake of wine, because I have alot of alcoholism in my family. I know that if I did drink I would like it to much and probably wouldn’t stop drinking.
Ever notice how much communion tastes like bread and grape jelly? I’m glad God chose something common, sweet and easy to afford!
He’s so good. Robyn
Hey. It’s Adam… long time. Anyways, it’s sad to say, I’d have to agree with the the post. It speaks for itself. As in, the world has come to such a sad, commercialized point, to where we’ve reduced even the most reverant of things, down to the most simple things.
