  • I have to go read around that verse now….

and I like your new profile picture.

  • I don’t think I’ve ever seen that expression before.

  • I just read that verse today in a devotional. God kinda slapped me about my reasons for doing something. Excellent verse, something we should all strive for.

  • ryc: I’ve heard of people in rural KY that are utterly willing to work, unable to move and unable to work enough hours at various min. wage jobs. Sure, they could deal drugs or get on the welfare or ssi but they don’t want to.

  • ryc: you can’t afford to move, you’ve lived there all your life…. Move where? think about it, if you have nothing what are the odds you’re going to have it better where you move. Structural unemployment sucks.

  • let’s not forget the kids whose parents do drugs and thus they don’t have any money. There’s a lot of things that cause poverty and america’s really great, but there are still some people in america that are just unfortunately screwed for a variety of reasons, some of it due to their choice, but not all necessarily. Poverty is very complicated and there’s no simple answer for it. Since the 1900′s people have been realizing that Horatio Algers novels are not true to life and pulling yourself up by your bootstraps is not always a possibility.

  • i like the new layout..but the white lettering is hard to read sometimes with the back ground shading.

  • Nice layout.

  • ryc:  It was a mild inference to “prayer cloths” and such.

  • Okay maybe this will make you feel better:

Damn that’s an ugly layout.  I mean what color is that?  Crap brown?

^^That is sarcasm^^ Does that clarify anything ?

  • Yeah, I got the reference, but I’m not the ultra-superstitious kind of person who would think to look for the Holy Spirit causing statues to cry and provide healing, divine faces to appear in wood grain, and/or burial clothes having magical powers. Just doesn’t jive with my whole understanding of the way God does things (but I’d be arrogant to think I knew how God does things).

I have a leaky faucet that cries tears of the virgin, and a piece of toast with the face of Jesus, except with a Mohawk.

    Infidel.

  • RYC… and stuff. Sorry for the delay.

I have to admit that I can’t retain much of my class concerning the NT, however, one detail seems to be here: there were 2 copies of Isiah that Qumran, one that is impeccably close to what we would find in good translations today, and another one which is complete but 15% shorter. I am uncertain of the actual differences in content, but there is a trend like this in texts found there, leading many scholars to believe that there were multiple versions of the Tanak and that they could be found in Essene camps. These different texts seem to also have been before a set cannon was established. Just some food for thought.

Quick question: Since Jesus said to love your neighbors (both in Matt and Luke) would he hug suicide bombers?

  • I like the new look on the site. I also really like the quote from C.S. Lewis.

  • Ha, I’ve been working on both the Vaccerelli Bible and a satirical analysis of such (meta-satire) called “Our Lord Infamous: A History” and such.

I’m ashamed that I’ve already written the Revelations of DMV, but never gotten around to posting it.

  • So you’re not into The Message, huh? That’s interesting. How come? The translation certainly DOES stretch it into modern language maybe a little too much. I compare verses just from the Message to the NIV and it’s like, “Wow. It almost doesn’t even say the same thing.” Haha now you got me thinking. Do you think that would make a good topic?

  • Hey, I found you through Pastor_Sabol. He is my spiritual grandfather. I see you guys talking, and I thought I’d stop by and say hello. I really like your site.

  • Caleb… one of your random quotes is C.S. Lewis commenting on being the landlord vs. a tenant.  Shouldn’t the last sentence be something like, “If I do belong to someone else, then I should not have the responsibilities that I have if I do belong to myself”?  (I can’t remember the exact quote… there just seems to be a mispaced “not”… I could be wrong).

  • Ahhh what happened to your background?

I like the quote at the top.

  • oh, haha, Anthony (anthawanth) and I are friends. He knew I was playing. Didn’t think about how it’d look to others, lawl

    oh, and, 19TH!

  • btw, your background reminded me, my favorite bible verse is 1 Cor. 2:9

  • ryc: yes, but i like the way it is worded in 1 Cor. 2:9 better, well, for a tattoo. I’m getting it tattooed on my left forearm.

  • Thank you for the comment. I have reconciled slavery in the Bible as a necessary part of culture. Where people willing gave themselves to be slaves, God told people to release their slaves after 7 years, and following Christ’s example they would not abuse them. However, in today’s world, slavery is usually against someone’s will, abusive, and can be overcome because of the financial capapbilities many countries have. I’m sure you already felt the same way, but I felt like commenting. :)

  • i don’t use im anymore.

heck, i’m not sure if i even have it.

  • why not?  I just had some peanut butter……………………….Peter Pan I think it was,

    Oh crap.

  • Sorry I haven’t gotten back to you sooner – I am feeling much better this week. As for you question about Saturday v Sunday, here’s the short answer. Sabbath begins Friday evening at sundown and lasts until Saturday evening at sundown. This has NEVER changed, regardless of what the Catholic church tries to tell us (or subsequent protestantism based on Catholicism). The NT church did NOT change the Sabbath. The Papacy tried to make the world think it was changed, but this was an anti-semitic lie. Whether you choose to worship on Saturday or Sunday is another matter altogether. God wants your worship any time, though He commands it on the Sabbath.

  • RYC: You’re welcome! I put up some great information to assist others in disputing the documentary if you are interested
