Most people are posting things like, “Christ is risen!” I’ve already got it posted — it’s my username. Not saying it’s a bad thing, but sometimes I don’t get why we only have a special celebration of Christ’s death and resurrection once a year. Shouldn’t it be every week? Every day? Every moment?
On the other hand, it’s a great day to share the Gospel with some people who only come to church once or twice a year.
I’ll be posting on TheWorshipCafe after church, so be sure to head over there later and check it out.
Now I’m off to teach all the 2- & 3-year-olds at my church about the Resurrection Egg. Yes, I just said Resurrection Egg. I’ll let you know more about it once I find out what the heck it is.
In the meantime, a question: Why do Christians practice pagan rituals (like painting eggs, or celebrating rabbits, or celebrating Easter) on the day when they’re supposed to be most focused on the heart of Christianity? Seems like a great way to spend Passover — painting eggs. Very worshipful.
¡Tenga un buena Pascua, todos!
:: EDIT 4:17 PM ::
Ok, so the Resurrection Eggs were hilarious. Basically, the eggs represented Jesus’ tomb. So, we handed out the plastic easter eggs, and the kids opened them with great dissappointment. They were hoping for candy or something, not a metaphor or symbol of Jesus’ empty tomb. Needless to say, they weren’t too interested once they found out no candy would be involved.

Praise the Lord and pass the eggs.

Personally? I agree..but last night I went to a Jewish Sader Passover service perfomed by Jewish Christians..the parallel between Christ’s death and ressurection hit me like it never had..and I realised how much I took the ressurection for granted. I am guilty of taking it’s importnace for granted at times…My enthusiasm in that post was sincere..so leave me alone, ya big bully.
Unfortunately we are marketed as is the rest of the world…and we have a choice on whether or not we follow the pagans. Instead of hiding eggs how about resurrection stones—but once opened they would be empty. we humans usually want something after a long hunt.
I’ve heard is said to be a great way to get adults and children into church but unfortunately I see them nothing more then gimmicks.
so that’s what eggs have to do with Easter…
now if only we could figure out why the bunny?
ryc: it figures you’d be able to answer that.
Thank you! http://www.xanga.com/eboresow/582424917/item.html
I keep saying to my catholic relatives, if He is risen, He needs to get His holy self back to bed ’cause work comes early tomorrow, and unlike him, the boss is unforgiving…
ryc: Spent the afternoon with my Italian family drinking too much wine to avoid having to listen to them. I’ve pretty much blasted anything interesting out of my brain.
Tomorrow I’ll have a post. Probably.
(although doubtfully on easter)
the cutest guys are ALWAYS christian. how disappointing.
my daughter loved her resurection eggs that she got at church. We sat down with her and went egg by egg. She loved them. I think they are a cute idea.
Oh I should hav added that hers the one had a cross in it. The one had a nail (not sure it is a smart idea to give young children a nail but it was good thoughts I know) there were 12 eggs. Each with something in to symbolize the death of Jesus and his tomb. Then the last one was empty to show he is risen. IT was a really good idea to teach the children. not sure about the aplication of that idea though as it had may sharp objects.
hello
Hey Caleb, its Alethos just posting under the other site. I think that most Christians celebrate these rituals just because they grew up that way. I don’t think that most people ever really give thought to what they are doing on these holidays. Many Christians have in the past though sought to redeem pagan holidays and created things associated with the holidays that speak of what Christ did for us. I would assume that the easter egg would be a good example. But like Halloween and the day that we celebrate Christmas on are examples of the Church trying to redeem Pagan holidays and make them about Christ.
The Resurrection is celebrated everyday, in the Mass!
Agree with living_embers.
Also, there’s nothing wrong with painted eggs and a bunny. Really. It’s just a bit of fun on a holiday. The main point is always Mass and remembering the Resurrection. Its a joyful, sunny, and yes, a fun day. I think God would like us to have a bit of fun on that day, and I think he’s pleased when we lighten up a bit.
Atheists do it better. LOL LITERALLY, LIKE, BEFORE MARRIAGE! GET IT???? HAHAHA!
I’m sorry.
I’m 100% quality, baby.
I didn’t realize just how little bunnies and eggs had to do with easter until this year, when I read an article about how even the name Easter comes from a pagan fertility goddess or something and the bunnies and eggs are fertility symbols or something. Wow. I guess I just chalk it up to being American. The tradition is dumb, but as long as we remember what we are truly celebrating, I think we’re all okay.
:excited: I love this smiley.
God bless!
